To this day, Traveler’s Rest serves highly acclaimed American and German cuisine in charming dining rooms with fireplaces and stunning garden views that set a peaceful ambiance. He utilized his carpentry skills to create magnificent wood paneled walls on the inside and to expand the original building with an extensive addition in 1974. Langner toiled building elaborate stonework and gardens on the outside. In 1961, with only three hundred dollars to his name, Gerhardt Langner purchased the property to open his own restaurant. The structure which houses Travelers Rest dates back to the late 1880’s when it was a popular stop along the stagecoach route to New York City.
